Students are occasionally asked to study and evaluate published authors to take a look at writing strategies that are being successfully used in fiction. Tonight, students are working on this assignment!
The strategies we have been looking at include: balancing internal and external character traits, internal thought vs. external description. Barry Lane leads--big potato lead, misleading lead, snapshot lead. Using snapshots, thoughtshots, or "explode-a-moment." Balancing dialogue with internal thought is another strategy.
Ask your son or daughter to explain one or two of these strategies!
